Technical Specifications

We are continually asked to compare the state of the art True32 cabinet construction systems used by FrameZERO Custom Cabinetry to the traditional face frame cabinet construction! The term "32mm" is neither new or a construction method, but is a boring pattern which is used to prepare the cabinet for assembly. FrameZERO’s decision to incorporate this method of manufacturing is a result of consumers demanding a full overlay style and painted finishes. We could not hold tight enough tolerances with face frame construction nor could we keep the frame joints from cracking due to the movement associated with expansion and contraction of wood from dry to moist conditions. The frameless (full access) construction method along with the "True32" system afford us the extremely tight tolerances and unequaled strength. This method also gives approximately 20% more cabinet and drawer space due to the absence of face frames and our drawer guide is the drawer side, a typical frameless (full access) cabinet will have a drawer that is 3" wider than the same cabinet built in the face frame method. The following specifications are for FrameZERO Custom Cabinetry standard fabricating techniques and business practices. We are bound to follow certain quality assurance guidelines to meet A.W.I. Premium and Custom standards. Our specifications are as follows

Cabinet Interior Materials and Construction:

Standard cabinet interiors are 19mm (3/4") Thermally Fused White Melamine on 45lb Density Industrial Particle Core (Engineered Wood) with 19mm (3/4") Thermally Fused White Melamine backs on MDF core. All Adjustable shelves are 19mm (3/4") Thermally Fused White Melamine on 45lb Density Industrial Particle core.

Engineered Woods are superior to natural woods for the following reasons:

  1. Stability-Will not cup or warp.
  2. Strength- No voids, strength is consistent in all directions.
  3. Higher impact resistance.
  4. Uniform surfaces for superior bonding qualities for surface material.
  5. No surface cracks to telegraph though surface veneers, Better finished surfaces, both inside and out.
  6. Engineered Wood is environmentally friendly, this product is produced partly from the shavings from the saw mill, before engineered woods where invented, these shavings would be burned, polluting the environment and wasting our precious wood supply

Melamine Surfaces are superior to natural woods for the following reasons:

  1. Melamine is impervious to standing water unlike vinyl or sealed woods
  2. It will not promote the growth of bacteria.
  3. White interiors provide for a high degree of light reflection for higher visibility of stored items.
  4. Shelves do not require shelf paper.
  5. Exposed and unexposed areas are equally protected.
  • Cabinets are joined using 3.5mm x 40mm Zip-ax screws placed proportionately from front to rear of each joined part.
  • Adjustable shelves are mounted using 5mm line bores with standard shelf pins, vertically adjustable in +/- increments of 32mm ( 1-1/4")
  • Standard construction is with Full overlay doors and drawer fronts with a 3mm reveal between all fronts.
  • Exposed edges are banded with PVC (.5mm - .018") to match exterior finish. This includes all cabinet carcass parts (interior ends, tops, bottoms, stretchers, etc.).
  • Adjustable Shelves are banded with PVC (.5mm - .018") to match exterior finish.
  • Standard sink cabinets are sealed around all joint lines with caulking to prevent water penetration.
  • Base cabinets are leveled by means of 4 (four) 110mm Camar leveler legs with a -6mm/+23mm range. These are concealed by a removable continuous Toe Front.
  • Upper cabinets are mounted and leveled by means of 2 (two) Camar Suspension blocks mounted in the upper back corners and suspend the cabinet by transferring the load bearing from the end panels onto the Suspension Z-Bar that is leveled and mounted hidden behind the cabinet back. These blocks have a range of Unlimited left to right, + 32mm (1.25") off the wall and +/- 16mm (5/8") vertical with a full maximum range vertical of 32mm (1-1/4").
  • Cabinets are clamped and fastened before being attached to wall surfaces to insure parallel joint lines between counter edge and cabinet faces.
  • Cabinet Scribe Fillers are kept within a range of 32mm minimum to 52mm max. with a few exceptions requiring a maximum filler of 76mm (Dead Corner returns, Appliance requirements, design needs, etc.)

Cabinet Door and Drawer Construction:

Commercial type laminate doors and drawer fronts-Laminate surfaces are balanced with matching thickness laminate on opposing faces to insure compliance with AWI specifications regarding balanced panels. When available vertical grade (.020") laminate will be used on all vertical cabinet surfaces (doors, drawer fronts, toe kicks, end panels, scribe fillers, etc.).

Residential 5 piece wood doors and drawer fronts- Built from job specific solid wood. available in miter or mortise and tenon.

Residential 1 piece MDF doors and drawer fronts- Built from 19.5mm (3/4”) 48lb. MDF substrate with melamine back.

Warpage Tolerances

  • Allowable tolerances for warpage on doors is 1/8" up to 26" wide and 48" tall. Allowable tolerance is 1/4" for doors that exceed either of these dimensions.
  • Door panels are precision bored to accept Blum 110 degree Soft closing, 6 way adjustable, fully concealed hinges. Hinges have a LIFETIME WARRANTY. Doors over 42" in height will receive a third or center hinge according to hardware specifications by manufacturer.
  • Drawers are made using the Salice Progressa Drawer system. Drawer system has a LIFETIME WARRANTY. This drawer is available in a full range of depths and heights and the largest available size will be used in each opening to maximize it's storage potential.
  • Unless specified otherwise, all cabinet doors and drawer fronts are bored to accept a 32mm (1-1/4”) Solid Brass Knob. These knobs are mounted on all doors, 38mm(1-1/2") from edge, 76mm (3") from top of base doors and 76mm (3") from bottom of upper doors. On drawer fronts knobs are centered left to right and top to bottom of all drawer fronts. This gives a nice uniform appearance as well as allowing later additions of cabinet locks without major modifications.
